Jim Henson passed away 23 years ago this week. I experienced his creativity as a love song for our world, a song that resonated deeply with me, and continues to echo back out into the world through my work. I know many puppeteers would say the same, that his influence shaped our lives and the way we chose to contribute to our society. Its an impressive legacy for one man, to re-invent an archaic art form for the medium of the age and in so doing inspire a world of practitioners. I hope as puppeteers we honour his genius, by creating a vision of puppetry as relevant as his, by igniting the imagination in others as he did in us, and by pushing at possibilities boundaries as he did. In many ways our company is a thank you note to him and his extended creative family, because if they had not shown us what was possible, we would not have known where to begin.
Thank you Jim Henson.
